About Sonipat, Haryana

Sonepat is a town part of the Sonepat district of Haryana, India. It also comes under the National Capital Region (NCR) which means it is in vicinity to Delhi. It is around 20 km from the Delhi. Its eastern border is covered by the river Yamuna. It has three sub-divisions named Gannaur, Sonepat & Gohana and further into seven blocks Sonepat, Gannaur, Rai, Kharkhoda, Gohana, Kathura and Mundlana. It was separated from Rohtak and made a District itself on 22nd December 1972. 

An ancient belief states that Sonepat was founded as Swarnprastha by the Pandavas. According to the 2011 census the population of Sonepat is 1, 279, 175 with a sex ratio of 839 female per 1000 males. The growth rate of population in last 2 decades is 22.36%. Sonepat has a literacy rate of 83.06%. 

Sonepat is an agricultural majority district as there is vast agricultural land and homes for sale in Sonepat on which various types of crops such as wheat, rice, oilseeds, sugarcane, cotton, pulses, barley, maize, millet etc are grown. Along the agriculture there are many big industries which are also housed in Sonepat, some of the names are Atlas cycle Industry, ECE, Osram India, LT Overseas, Kohinoor Rice etc. 

Sonepat is also an education hub and homes many good schools and colleges for all types of education.
